About Michele
Michele Lepe was born in North Carolina, to a vibrant Spanish mother and an all-American military father. She learned to speak English growing up near Cambridge, England and Spanish in Alcala de Guadaira (Sevilla), Spain. It was in Spain during summer breaks when Michele’s love for dressing up in full flamenco dress started attracting crowds… well, maybe most of them were family members, but that’s what ignited her love of performing. The family relocated to San Antonio, TX when Michele was nine years old, and it was but a year later that she made her first appearance on the stage at her elementary school. The reviews (from her parents) were a rave! Years later, while attending Kitty Hawk Junior High and Judson High School, she joined the school band (playing the flute and performing with the color guard). Following her passion for dance, Michele joined The Galaxies, a red-white-and-blue high kick dance team.
Michele went on to earn a BBA in International Business from St. Mary’s University, and became an Account Executive at the largest Hispanic advertising agency in the country. While battling with clients like Sprint, Sunny Delight and Western Union she found time to take acting classes and audition for plays. She was able to land notable roles in Antigone among other plays and began to find work acting in commercials. In 2000 she moved to Miami and shortly thereafter joined the morning-drive radio show, “The Breakfast Club”, at 97.3FM The Coast. Her biggest break came at the end of September of 2002 when she landed a starring role on NBC/Telemundo’s breakthrough mini-series, “Los Teens”. The show portrayed today’s Latino teen-agers facing growing pains in a light never before seen on Spanish-language television. Michele continued to appeal to audiences of all ages and from both “Latino” and “American” households as the co-host of “Off the Roof”. This variety talk show aired live Monday thru Friday on the hot new cable channel, Mun2. Additionally, she hosted a weekly video countdown show on Mun2. After her stint on Mun2, Michele landed a co-starring role on the dramatic mini-series, “Al Filo de la Ley” which aired on Univision.
Proving once again that she is truly a chameleon in front of the camera or a live audience, Michele was selected after a nation-wide search as the Host of “The Good Night Show” on PBS Kids Sprout. Since 2006, she has created a meaningful bond with millions of pre-schoolers and their parents across the US. Michele was also fortunate enough to win a regional Emmy in 2007 for “Best Host”. She went on to co-create and develop a spin-off series based on her beloved character, Nina, from The Good Night Show called "Nina's World". This break-through animated show features a bilingual Mexican-American family living in a diverse community and focuses on the adventures of Nina and her best friends. Michele is not only Executive Producer, but also voices the character of "Mami" and has written episodes for the award-winning series.
In 2018 the Sprout Network transitioned into the Universal Kids network, and the Good Night Show is no longer airing. Fans can still see Michele regularly on her YouTube channel, Story Time With Michele, where she reads beloved children’s books aloud. She is passionate about childhood literacy and encouraging young fans to fall in love with reading. She hopes that the channel serves a safe, welcoming space where parents can turn when they need a fun and interactive reading experience with their children. Besides the YouTube channel, fans can also spot Michele in national TV commercials for various clients, and she is thrilled to be the spokesperson for AutoNation in all of their Spanish-language advertising.
